Ken Liu. Cassandra. (Clarkesworld Magazine #102, March 2015)

clarkesworld102Cassandra being a Greek mythological prophet. BTW the story is online here.

A young woman finds that she has a gift of foresight – touching something recently touched by another enables her to see inside the mind of that person, and what they have planned. This enables her to intervene pro-actively, and dispense justice prior to crimes being committed, and this brings her to the attention of a caped superhero, who has issues with her modus operandi and the ethics thereof.

Nicely handled, and nicely written, by way of an illustration, here’s the closing paragraph : “So we dance across the city, he and I, antagonists locked in the eternal struggled between the scattered knowledge of fate and the ignorant certainty of free will”.
