I didn’t read this is in it’s original online publication, but in Neil Clarke’s ‘The Best Science Fiction of the Year, Volume 2‘.
The good home in question is being supplied for the benefit of an android Veteran. The vet’s AI is deemed non-violent, but taking in the ex-combat android doesn’t go down well with the protagonist’s mom, or the neighbours, and there’s a need to reach out to the damaged ‘goods’ to help the AI recover.
It’s a subtle story, interestingly placed in the anthology just before a story with not dissimilar themes, and which doesn’t do the following story any favours by setting a high standard.
