0Walter Jon Williams. Solidarity. A sequel to ‘Margaux’ (Asimovs, May 2003) in which Gredel, a young woman living out a life which is brutal and likely to be short, finds a doppelganger who has been born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Gredel decides that she would make more of the opportunities which Lady […]

0Joe Haldeman. Marsbound. The first part of a three-part serialisation gets the double issue underway. J Timothy Bagwell. Tangible Light. A story that reads very much as being from a novice writer. It just needs more work in most of areas to get beyond a couple of interesting premises and settings. A young man has […]

0C. Sanford Lowe & G. David Nordley. Imperfect Gods. A sequel to ‘Kremer’s Limit’ (Analog July/August 2006) in which Hilda Kremer overcame political opposition to get a mission to create an artificial black hole underway. This story starts with her arriving at a planet circling Groombridge 34A, a long journey from Earth. The scientific experiment […]

0Reviewed : MobiPocket version on a Tapwave Zodiac. Wil McCarthy. Boundary Condition. National Weather Service astronauts have a surprise visit – from Pope Dave : cue the joke about the Pope driving his car instead of his chauffer, and some other creaky dialog. The story gives some ponderation to the role ‘God’ may have in […]

0Wil McCarthy. The Policeman’s Daughter. Attorney Carmine Strange Douglas finds himself in a predicament, as a younger, ballsier version of himself is defending a younger, ballsier version of his old friend. This has been able to happen due to the extensive use of a technology which makes it -extremely- simple to make backups and duplicates […]

0A very strong volume, IMHO, with only the Palwick story being the one to which I would object to (although with the proviso that the Sterling and Cadigan stories were for my more towards the fantasy end of the spectrum than the SF, especially for an editor who does have a complementary fantasy collection).
