Read in Judith Merril’s The Year’s Greatest Science Fiction and Fantasy, 1956.
As with the preceding story in the volume, a short, gentle and amusing story. Aquatic alien life – but not that alien as other than being rooted to the sea-floor, they are otherwise your average middle aged parents with a troublesome teen.
Said troublesome teen, was it not ever thus, decides that he wants more from life than putting roots down with a nice girl and he’s off.
