It’s a short story, and you can read it here, and I’d advise you so to do, as short SF-wise, you won’t spend a better 5 minutes this year. Take a deep breath (I say that for a reason) and read this very, very human story about a standard SF trope. Why? Because it’s very, very good.
If you don’t read it now, you’ll be able to pick it up in one of the Year’s Best anthologies next year.
