Bachus is an author new to Asimovs, and new to me.
There’s not a massive sfnal element to the story, as minor reworking could turn it into a story of bravery on a whaling vessel becalmed in ice. But the writing has a bit of personality to it, the dialogue is more realistic than you get in most SF (“Of course he’s fucking dead. Go roust the first mate. Where the fuck is he? What the fuck happened to him?”), which is nice.
