Josh Roseman. Bring on the Rain. (Asimovs July 2011)

Climate change brought on by an ‘event’ leads to a sort of Mad Max future, with nomadic communities of desert-adapted vehicles/ships forming, the better to protect themselves and to seek water.

A tight drama is enacted, with a bit of backstory, and an ending offering the potential of a sequel. FWIW I’d vote for one.

note to self : check to see if Americans do indeed spell drought ‘draught’ as in GvG’s introduction

note to readers : the above note to self was not left in by accident

  1. Mark – No that must be a typo. “Drought” is “Drought” in America, too. “Draught” is the British spelling for our bastardized “Draft”!

And wouldn’t that be Sheila Williams who wrote the intro not GvG?

By the way – love your reviews. Your site I visit almost every day looking for help with my reading.

    Thanks.

  2. Dear Bob Blaugh

Yup, Sheila Williams of course. I was clearly keen to point the smoking gun at Gordon as he keeps posting comments pointing out my typos on Best SF ;-)

ps and thanks for the kind words, nb did you see what I did with your name above ;-) Just wish I could spend more time on Best SF, but in addition to having a FT job, I also spend time now on http://www.essexdaysout.com – any SF fans visiting Essex, England, do look me up!

  3. Mistake is totally mine, but I like the idea of blaming Gordon for it!

  4. I’m glad you enjoyed the story.

I’ve had thoughts on sequels and prequels, but none of them have come to fruition just yet.
