Jonathan Maberry. Jingo and the Hammerman. (The End Has Come, 2015)

theendhascomeA third singleton from Maberry, this time around a dry look at a two-man team who are working in a compound, on regular work details to keep down the zombie numbers on the other side of the fence.

The two of them get into some thoughtful conversation about their predicament, and there’s a denouement when the a) attentive, and b) familiar with American pop culture, realise what is happening. Myself I managed a) but needed a google search to identify b).

Nonetheless, a slightly different tone to the horrors of the rest of the volume (mind you, there is horror in the story, but more comic book).
