I’ve never read a Reader’s Digest version of a novel, but I reckon this might be what it reads like.
Jones zooms through enough to take up a novel, covering a lot of issues, but in a fast forward style, that feels almost like a first brain dump for a novel. There’s AI-crime story, a kidnap, a troilistic relationship (1 human, 2 ai), miniature tigers, longevity, immortality, ethical issues around keeping AIs (slavery?), politics, and more. Due to the length of the story, this is all covered sketchily, and not particularly satisfactorily.
