Genevieve Valentine. La beauté sans vertu. (Tor.com April 2016)

labeaute_fullOnline here, and well worth a read.

Valentine extrapolates current issues in the fashion industry – with stick-thin models on the catwalk wearing transplanted arms from teenage corpses in place of their own.

This is explained in the first two paragraphs of the story, should you think I’m giving away a big reveal in the story! The story follows young Maria, who is to walk down the catwalk, her gossamer-thin costume will melt away to nothing.

But it is Maria who walks, and walks, and melts away, melts away into legend…

An elegiac tone throughout in a story crafted as carefully as a couture dress.
