Pulp alternate history steampunk, in a Victorian world that has been influenced by previous alien visitation. Germany and England are at war (no change there then), and Vaughn brings two adventurers from a forthcoming JJ Adams anthology together again.
It’s a fast-paced adventure without a huge amount of depth. Vaughn has published several urban fantasy novels about werewolf ‘Kitty Norville’, of which I was blissfully unaware until reading the author bio on Lightspeed Magazine.
My eyes being somewhat tired from a day at the PC I listened to the podcast, rather than read the story, with the vocal talents of Roxanne Hernandez doing a pretty fine job, the only issue being her pronunciation of shone (three times) to rhyme with bone rather than con. Obviously one has got used to hearing aluminium pronounced the American way rather than the (proper) British way, but this was a surprise to me.
